DIY Feather Skirt

A few months ago, one of my very good friends bought herself an amazing ostrich feather skirt. I wish you could see it because it is absolutely gorgeous. I just discovered a blog that I am utterly in love with called PS – I Made This. Author Erica Domesic’s motto is “I see it. I like it. I make it” and she is inspired by fashion trends and runway looks. Lucky for me, Erica breaks down how to make a feather skirt and look how easy it is! Why didn’t I think of this?

DIY Fractal Mirror

The price tag attached to fractal mirrors can be quite steep (too steep for me). How about making one of your own. Home DZine shows us how with a step-by-step. Just keep in mind that the site is South African therefore some of the products may have slightly different brand names here.

Homemade Lip Balm

I just got back from winter wonderland (otherwise known as my friend Nate’s cabin). A great day skiing, a few days hanging out in a cabin, more snow than I have seen in a long time. What a great weekend. My only complaint – my poor lips. They are PARCHED and in need of some major TLC. How cute are these tiny little jars of lip balm? Design*Sponge shows us all how to make lip balm for yourself! So much better than store bought – you get to choose the scent, the container and you know exactly what is going in there!

Books By the Foot

One of my most current obsessions is colour coded bookcases. What a great way to organize all of those prized possessions! For those of us that are still working on our libraries of masterpieces, companies like Books By The Foot can offer you a jump-start. Whether you want books in particular colours or on specific subjects they’ve got them! You choose what you are looking for and how much you want, and they will send you actual books in all of your specifications!

How To: Homemade Cards

Yesterday was my daddy’s birthday! I love making my parents homemade cards. Whenever they see them their faces light up and I feel a little girl who just had a drawing go up on the fridge. They are always so proud! Cards are a lot easier to make than they look and trust me… They impress everyone.

What you need:

1 piece of card stock paper for the base of the card (Any craft store – I get mine at Michael’s)

Pretty paper for your cupcakes (Any craft store – Check the scrapbook section, they usually have some clearance paper, I got mine for 29 cents each!)

Some stick on jewels, or glitter, or buttons, or ribbon, or flowers… you get the idea

A little bit of love

To Make:

Cut out cupcake shapes in your decorative paper (if you are worried about drawing the cupcake, you can email me and I will send you the template that I drew).

Glue your cupcakes on your card stock in a pyramid shape (or any shape your little heart desires). I like to use something called rubber-cement to glue my pieces down. You can buy it in any craft/art store and sometimes even at the dollar store. It is great because it doesn’t wrinkle paper and it wipes off once dry with zero residue. You can also use any other glue you may have on hand.

Use a few different colours and sizes of stick on jewels to decorate your cupcakes.

Voila! You could sell that baby at Hallmark for big bucks!

The Apron Makes a Comeback!

A quick search on Etsy and your scrolling through hundreds of handmade creations complete with frills, lace and so much cuteness that I can hardly handle it! Cupcakes, skulls, polka dots – whatever you fancy in every colour of the rainbow. Aprons these days seem to have taken a different role in the kitchen. I for one don’t necessarily wear one when I’m beating eggs or baking cookies (what if I get something on it?) No ma’am, I wear my apron when I’m serving cocktails or having a party and it always matches my outfit. Have character’s like Mad Men’s Betty Draper influenced this influx of modern day women aspiring to be the best homemakers they can be? I would say yes – that or at least we all want to look the part. I think every lady should have at least one of these gorgeous frocks tucked away in a kitchen drawer – but don’t you dare wipe your buttery hands on it.

Get one of your own! From left to right: Blue and Red Gourmet Glam, I LOVE LUCY, From Paris with Love, and French Maid (which happens to be hanging in my kitchen right now!)

Tea My Valentine?

The day of love is upon us. I freakin love this “holiday”. I remember Valentine’s Day in elementary school very fondly. Spending the afternoon decorating a card holder with construction paper hearts then walking around the class and handing out Strawberry Shortcake Valentine’s Day Cards with sayings on them like “I love you berry much”. All while stuffing your face with cinammon hearts and cupcakes iced with dreamy little clouds of pink icing! That was the best.

Check out these Valentine’s Day Tea bags from Creature Comforts. Full tutorial and free printable templates are available there for download! I made them for all of my favourite tea lovers and I think they are just adorable!
