Ropes Lights by Christian Haas

Christian Haas’ career began in Germany shortly after he finished a degree in industrial design. His portfolio is extensive and includes everything from interior design, lighting design, chinaware, glassware and furniture design. In addition to personal design projects under his own label, Haas also works with renowned companies such as Villeroy & Boch and Volkswagen.

One of his latest 2011 collections, ROPES, is my personal favourite and I can pick a few spots in my apartment where I think these would look great. On his website, Haas describes the concept of ROPES as “a soft look and textile touch, energy-efficient technology, are combined to create an innovative light source and distinctive design object. Unlit, the lamps provide a graphic statement to their environment. Lit, they diffuse a gentle ambient light. Each unique and numbered piece varies in size and technique.”

Take a look at Haas’ website for a look at the complete ROPES collection as well as his other works.

Rebecca and Rick Puig started Sugarboo Designs with the mission to add soul to the home with handmade products. Their gigantic portfolio gets better with every click through their website. From pillows to reclaimed wood, to metalwork, all of their products remind me a little of the beachhouse and a little of the farmhouse. Take a look at their website to see more of the collection and while you’re there, take a look at their ‘About’ page for their adorable family photos.

Lisbeth Jewelry by Sophie Alden

I love the way I feel when I wear something that I know is made with love. It puts a little spring in my step to know that I have something special on that was made by somebody who actually puts care into their craft. A great example are the gorgeous creations handmade by Vancouver’s Lisbeth Jewelry. Designer Sophie Alden comes from a family of fashionistas and she is no exception. Alden’s endeavors began when she worked in retail and made jewelry as a hobby. Soon everyone was taking notice of her unique style and Lisbeth got off the ground. My experience with Lisbeth has been nothing less than perfect. Last summer, one of my necklaces had an unfortunate accident (I broke it to pieces and lost a part of it). I thought it was gone forever but Sophie to the rescue… She was more than happy to repair it. Another great reason to support our local designers. Please visit Lisbeth’s website to take a look at the whole line.

DIY Fractal Mirror

The price tag attached to fractal mirrors can be quite steep (too steep for me). How about making one of your own. Home DZine shows us how with a step-by-step. Just keep in mind that the site is South African therefore some of the products may have slightly different brand names here.
